Per il veterano tight end si tratta della 13a stagione ufficiale, una decisione presa con la dovuta attenzione dopo la fine del torneo, e dopo essersi consultato a lungo con la famiglia. Il mitico Gonzo, leader della storia NFL come numero di ricezioni per un tight end, ben 999, e settimo assoluto fra i ricevitori, a fine stagione era ancora indeciso sul proseguimento della sua carriera, ma evidentemente ha trovato stimoli e motivazioni per continuare nel 2010 con gli Atlanta Falcons. Le sue stats dell'ultima stagione sono 83 ricezioni per 867 yards e sei touchdowns.
