Holmgren interessato ai Browns
(22-11-2009) - L'ex coach di Seattle esprime interesse per un lavoro a Cleveland
L'Hall of Famer Jim Brown, ad inizio settimana, ha detto che il patron dei Browns Randy Lerner si è incontrato con "una delle migliori menti del football del paese", ed ha suggerito che questa persona potesse essere Holmgren. L'ex coach di Green Bay Packers e Seattle Seahawks ha smentito durante il suo show radiofonico sul network KJR-AM di Seattle, ma ha precisato che sarebbe lieto di incontrare i vertici del team.
"Sono molto lusingato che sia stato fatto il mio nome", ha detto via telefono Holmgren da Phoenix. "Mi fa sentir bene quando me ne vado in giro in moto, godendomi il sole. Ma spero sia vero che un giorno avremo la possibilità di parlare. Ho un grandissimo rispetto per Mr. Lerner. La squadra sta faticando un pò. E mi piacerebbe moltissimo parlare della possibilità di lavorare con loro, ma quando succederà sarete i primi a saperlo".
Lerner ha detto di essere alla ricerca di un'autorità nel football, di un "leader serio e credibile" per guidare il suo team. Holmgren non ha chiarito se sia o meno intenzionato ad allenare ancora, ma che sarebbe interessato ad una chance per occuparsi della ricostruzione di una squadra come i Browns.
Holmgren è stato il GM e HC dei Seahawks nelle ultime quattro stagioni. Ha smesso di allenare al termine dell'ultimo campionato.
