Il “rookie of the year” 2006 tornerà quindi a guidare l’attacco dei Titans sostituendo Kerry Collins, che l’anno scorso aveva preso il suo posto dopo l’opening game e aveva condotto la franchigia di Tennessee ai playoff con un record di 13-3.
La partenza disastrosa di questa stagione (il team ha zero vittorie e sei sconfitte), però, ha convinto coach Fisher a dare un’altra chance a Young, che era stato il 3 overall pick nel draft 2006 e su cui i Titans avevano riposto molte speranze.
Certamente Collins non è stato finora aiutato dai suoi ricevitori, che hanno droppato almeno 18 suoi passaggi ma, come lui stesso afferma, “quando ti trovi sullo 0-6 molte teste iniziano a cadere e, il più delle volte, il quarterback è una di esse”.
Young è stato il primo quarterback a totalizzare, nell’era post 1966, più di 500 yards di corsa nella sua stagione da rookie e può vantare un record di 18-11, ma le sue statistiche sui passaggi non sono certo incoraggianti: 21 TD, 31 INT, passer rating del 68.7.
